Which jobs boards are best for people over 45?
ResearchWe’ve compiled this review to help our members navigate quickly to the jobs boards most likely to meet their needs. Unfortunately, most job boards offer a poor customer experience for the 50+ demographic for three main reasons:
- Lack of potential: most jobs boards require you to search for jobs using 'job title' which doesn't speak to the problem we observe which is people want inspiration and ideas as they consider their options of what to do next.
- Many jobs boards targeted at those over 50 are filled with lower skill requirement jobs.
- Most jobs boards advertise full time jobs as default - whilst there is some movement towards more hybrid and flexible working options, the full time requirement is not just outdated, it increasingly fails to meet the needs of people in the 50+ demographic who typically have multiple demands on their time (such as caring for young and older relatives) as well as increasing needs to focus on health and fitness.
As a result of these difficulties, we have reviewed some of the main jobs boards. We provide links to the main ones and our review of:
- An overview of their expertise and our observations about their sites or feedback shared by our members
- The services they offer (e.g will they do a CV review for example).
- Do they have flexible working options?
- The sectors they cover
- The salary levels targeted
- Do they enable you to do a job search (or do you have to send in a CV and hope for the best)?
- Our observations: what’s good about them and what could be improved?
The sites/jobs boards we review are:
- Reed
- Flexa
- CJ Talent
- Jobs/Redefined
- Prime Candidate
- Rest Less
- Wise Age
- Indeed
- O50C
(please note, since we published this article in 2022, Working Wise was bought by the 55redefined group and No desire to Retire has ceased trading. 050C is a new entrant to the market).
We then go into more sector specific jobs boards and give a list based on the sectors you tell us you are most keen on exploring:
- Charity and non profit
- Creative sector jobs
- Environmental sector jobs
Verdict:
The jobs board we believe best meets the needs of our audience is Jobs Redefined and CJ Talent.
